Greece is one of the best places in Europe to have holidays with your kids and family. I believe that if you rent a family villa in Greece you should stay as close to the beach as possible, as this is literally main benefit of spending your holidays in Greece.

My advice, though, is this: if you rent a family villa in Greece, ensure you are close to a large town or the beach. Many villas may look great in the pictures on booking.com, but in reality, they are in the middle of nowhere, up in the mountains, and I don’t think this is good if you have children, in my opinion. You need to be close to shops, amenities, and generally “civilization” for emergency cases and for the flexibility and helpfulness you need when travelling with kids. Staying somewhere really remote is not wise, in my opinion.

I believe that the best family villas in Greece are in Crete, but there are amazing holiday villas anywhere in Greece and even on the mainland. To be honest, as long as you ensure you are close to a beach (which is not very difficult to guarantee in Greece…), you will have amazing views and be meters away from the best playground for kids (aka a sandy beach). It is also very important to understand what the actual hosts are offering and if catering and meals are included, as in some villas, you can have meals catered.
